We had our second assembly today. Cross was awarded Athlete of the Month and Serena and Emily did a great job hosting the assembly. We also had our first Roots of Empathy class today. The students were introduced to our class baby, "Olivia," which is Emily's sister, but will only get to meet her in a couple weeks.

Sorry I missed updating yesterday. I was too busy watching the first JETS game in 15 years! Anyway, I'm back to update you on today's events. We completed a really impressive writing assignment as a class today which you can view on the Blue & Gold board in the hallway. The piece was written with contributions from the entire class and is titled, "Why We're Blue & Gold!" The kids did a great job on it and they should be very proud. We also started brainstorming a writing piece titled, "Scars" or "My Spooky Story." This came about because we had a dynamic class discussion on the different scars we have. I anticipate that this will be a very detailed writing assignment as many of the kids had long stories about their scars.
We also started looking at the Scientific Method in Science today. Ask the kids to do the pepsi can magic trick for you and then explain how they did it. It's pretty cool!

Monday, Monday

A good start to the week, but I had to remind some students of our class beliefs. So far, it's been a good start to the year. We've accomplished a lot of things and gotten routines in place for the year. This afternoon Mrs. Waters and I met our artist for The Integrated Arts for this term. I am very excited to have Diane Cameron back in my class to do a visual art piece with the kids. We did a fantastic project last year with Diane that the kids were really proud of. It was a great session today and I am looking forward to November, when she into the classroom to share her expertise.

Friday

Wow! What a busy day of technology, team building and math number sense. We now have all students set up with Edmodo accounts and they were busy finding out what the site has to offer. We discussed different ways to write numbers (standard, written form, expanded form) and wrote definitions for these and some place value concepts. Near the end of the day we played some team building games to build our classroom community.

First Post of 2011

Well, here we go again. It's been a long time since I've blogged, but I intend to keep up to date daily with a quick note of what we have done, or interesting things that have happened throughout the day.
